JP Demo at GAS: Glass Art Society 11th Annual Conference

Glass Art Society will be holding their 11th annual conference in Seattle, WA this year. This 2011 Conference will celebrate the community and diversity of glass throughout the country and world. Who better than JP to demonstrate unique techniques of cold working glass during this great event? GAS is a three day conference that will be held all over Seattle and the surrounding areas taking in all the amazing artwork that Seattle has to offer. On Thursday June 2nd, stop by the gallery for the Canlis Glass Open House from 5pm - 9pm.

Liquid to Solid: A Conversation and Demo of Hot Glass with Canlis Glass

Seattle is widely known as the epicenter of glass art. Join us for a casual studio chat with renowned glass artist JP Canlis, and hear insider details of this magnificent art form. We'll discuss basic history of the Seattle glass scene, explore where and how JP finds inspiration, and watch a live demo by the artist. You'll leave with a strong foundation of discussing the art form with your clients and a deeper understanding of the mind of an artist.

New Raindrop Chandelier

Canlis has been busy in the hot shop developing a new version of his acclaimed Raindrop Chandelier. Composed of dozens of blown glass "raindrops," the chandelier will be lit externally, illuminating the etched surface of the glass pieces, creating an intricate web of shadows. Stay tuned for an unveiling of the breathtaking finished piece. The options for commissioning this installation series are virtually endless.

Canlis Glass at the Seattle Design Center

Canlis Glass has opened a showroom at the Seattle Design Center. This satellite gallery has over twenty pieces of glass art including selections from Ocean Studies, as well as the large-scale Coral Bamboo and Raindrop Chandelier installations. The 3,000 square foot space features individual glass artwork and allows Canlis Glass to personally connect with the design and architecture world. Pieces are on display through February 2011. Look for emails about upcoming events at the SDC.

At Home with Canlis Glass

Leigh & JP were honored to have their house and glass artwork featured in the Homes and Luxury Living section of the Puget Sound Business Journal.  Together with their new daughter Anais and their dog Kai, the couple welcomed the journal to explore their home filled with famiy heirlooms and other objects that hold memories and meaning.  As mentioned in the article, the Canlises have worked to create a welcoming and meaningful space in both their home and their glass art gallery.

New Breathe Prototype

JP Canlis has been working on a new art glass installation as a part of his Breathe Series. The new piece features a Breathe form that has been reconstructed from faceted sections of glass. Working with this piece has inspired Canlis to push the limits of his Breathe Series for residential and commercial installations. Stay tuned...

New Glass Mobile

Over the past few months, JP Canlis created an original glass mobile for his new daughter, Anais Desirée Canlis.  The mobile recreates a school of glass Oama (baby goat fish) that make a beautiful sound as they move and softly clink against one another.  The mobile was inspired by JP's childhood memories of fishing for Oama in Hawaii.  While creating this piece for his daughter, JP began considering the possibilities of other suspended glass pieces and mobiles.  Stay tuned...

Mario's Shoot at Canlis Glass

Canlis Glass welcomed boutique clothier, Mario's for an exclusive photoshoot surrounded by glass art.  Paired with elegant glass installations in the gallery and industrial elements in JP's studio, Mario's Spring collection glowed.  Check out Canlis Glass on the pages of Mario's new Spring 2010 Edit.

Glass Art for Baby Canlis

Leigh and JP Canlis are excited to announce the arrival of their daughter Anais Desirée Canlis (pronounced Ah-nay).  She was born on February 9th, 2010 at 7:42pm weighing 7 lbs 10 oz and measuring 19 3/4" long.

Over the past few months, JP created an original glass mobile for his new daughter.  The mobile recreates a school of glass Oama (baby goat fish) that make a beautiful sound as they move and softly clink against one another.  The mobile was inspired by JP's fond childhood memories of fishing for Oama in Hawaii.
